Loyola came into being in the early 1900s when tourists started flocking to its idyllic beaches for their family vacations. The city quickly grew, and its economy soon began to boom. By the first decade of the 20th century, real estate developer Paul Green had begun to develop a small but vibrant commercial district in Loyola. This building boom continued into the 1930s, and the city held onto its booming population with popularity. The iconic Hotel Loyola was constructed in the late 1930s, and it quickly became the staple landmark of Loyola. Though it had its ups and downs over the years, the hotel still stands today and is a popular destination for its incredible views of the gorgeous Pacific Ocean. Loyola survived the war effort with the help of the military camps that were built in the area. These camps provided jobs and resources to help spur Loyola’s economy. After the war ended, the city saw an influx of new immigrants, many of whom came from countries in Europe and Asia. This helped add to the cultural richness of Loyola and further expand its economy.
